Session 1 Day 6

The overnight was ruined due to an "imminent" threat of a thunderstorm, and just as the girls were beginning to bond with us/each other.

Our inclusion camper pissed the cabin twice during the session for fuck's sake. The four were great, but her and the other girl were just fucking ridiculous.

I was told this was supposed to be the worst session of the summer, my next session is going to be relatively easy with no inclusion, one kid with allergies, and mixed gender. The boys (I think) are going to be sleeping in Redwood! :) Yay kids sleeping in my cabin. That's exciting.

Cleaning was stupid; we finished first so ended up helping Village South and Kiwanis. K took off for Seattle. BG, Weena and I went into town, picked up BG's friend Mike and drove around. We had one hell of an adventure: alcohol, pizza, the beach, a couch we claimed that had been set out for free but got taken in the time it took to get Weena's van, a car accident with two 16 year olds ina ditch. Phew. Busy.

So BG totally likes me.

What do I do? :\

Session 1 Day 4

Oh my god get these kids out of here.

6.26.2007

Session 1 Day 3

I miss just hanging out with staff. No more kids k thx.

(Today I went fishing with freshly hulled mussles. Didn't catch anything though.)

Session 1 Day 2

Wow, this day wasn't much better. The girls are a little slow, and slowed down even more by inclusion girl, and on top of that, she had a meltdown mid-day while Mango was on her STO*. The garden was nice, though, and we got to pick and eat our own peas (sugar and snow) and made it through swim checks. Thank fuck. Kuma's having a hell of a time too.

So Mango and I talked, and Keith wrote me a letter back. Everyone can tell that the two of them like me. (Lol.) Sigh. It's glaringly obvious to me now that I take a closer look. Oh well. I'm not going to do anything about this. No one believes me, but I've seriously resolved not to.

Seriously.

I want to see who makes the first move. Who has the balls to approach me about this? Glow? BG? K? Anyone else? I'm getting curious.

* Staff Time Off

Session 1 Day 1
Carli, Jessamyn, Corey, Rachel, Yari, Michelle (inclusion)

Way stressed out today. The inclusion girl we got is more than a handful. Mango and I are cocounseling so it's a bit easier, but add on the fact that we have one girl who's way too young to be in this unit and who hates being with inclusion girl. Major issues. This day sucked.

Mango is leaving after session one. :(

Pre-Camp Day 10

Let's get the fucking kids here already. I had a heart to heart with Mealy. She and I are mostly on the same page including the no god thing. T is intriguing me. A lot. I want to pick his brain. :\ Won't really have the time anymore. Hmm.

Pre-Camp Day 9

Oh my fuck, Play Day.* They forgot about me, so I was put with Toast, who I had only really briefly talked with before. She's in Wrangler. We had 6 girls from 10-12, and then got 2 more. It was crazy, and these 2 girls didn't even want to be there, so they ran off (!!!) without saying anything. Girls. :|

I (well, we) did amazingly, considering the circumstances. Redirecting is amazing. Toast was grateful and I am SO glad I got to help her out.

But even though the day was tiring, everything worked out. Beaker left her kids with me, and one of her girls told us a story about how dinosaurs bite people and then they die. (Fufufu).

And then the REAL fun began.

A group of us played elbow tag (d'accord) and then grabbed the parachute out of the sports shed and did Kingdome and Cat/Mouse. When that got boring, we started chasing people down and engulfing them. We even played a dual game of Quack Diddly Oh So and got hand-checked by Kanga.**

And then Mafia! Only Headhunters. And I was one, and almost won. :) Rascal makes a good God in that game. "Oh my god, oh my god, I need you to be quiet." Haha. We played Hail to the Chicken and 10 fingers (I Never...) as well, and Grphyon/Spree/half of BBH knows way too much about me now. And GLOW! Wow, he and I have a lot in common. Sexually. Yeesh. He's just turning 17 too. Wtf.

* Play Day was a free event kids swarming camp and us playing counselors for a day
** Mostly because we were playing under the parachute for 10 minutes

Pre-Camp Day 8

Not much today, we had most of the day off, so I did laundry, slept, slept with Taisa (oops), saw Joe one final time while we were eating at the Broadway Grill. Got back on the ferry and got told basically what I didn't want to hear. BG and K both like me like THAT. Sigh.

I don't really know what to do. :|

Pre-camp Day 7

Holy SHIT hahaha, he's mormon! WHAT. I am so amused now. :) A virgin, religious, full of integrity and activities experienced, but nothing of the flesh! How weird. T is my age, too, which now makes sense given how he acts and what he has to say about almost anything. AND (haha) he's a UL. So I don't know what the hell anymore. I don't know if he's just nice or what, but it almost seems like he's sensitive somehow (he thinks pornography degrades women). I hate it when this happens because I can't tell if it's his personal morality or if it's all religion with a helping of intelligence that has managed to justify all of the things he's heard. He did say that he hadn't been LDS until 2 years ago. I'm going to ask at some point what he was before then; there's no way he could make a leap like that from atheism or agnosticism. I'm guessing he was another denomination and jumped ship for some personal reasoning. Hmm! How interesting.

Our unit pretty much has a biased median IQ of some ridiculously low number. The campout went just... ugh. Not fun. Mealy is older than I thought. Our game of I Never went poorly due to not getting along and being cranky and one or two people being a little intolerant/ignorant.

[There was lots of fighting between Tiny and half of Horizon, and Bacon thought it was gross that I'd messed around with girls.]

6.19.2007

Pre-Camp Day 6

Elbow tag is glorious, and should always be played. I'm hoping this summer is going to be full of it.* So we made it up to the overnight location and got through more training. We made some fairly good dutch oven cake with coals. However, we have to stay with our groups/units, which is going to be a pain in the ass.

There is a guy in the group with me (T[iny]) that I am just gross over. I can't believe this B.S. at camp with me. Bad enough that he's cute, but that he's going to be in our group** for the summer. Haha, he wants to be in state patrol, wtf? I don't even know. He's adorable and BIG. So yeah. Gross. :|

But he has very strong opinions.

And collar bones.

Mm.

(Ew.)

* It wasn't
** Horizon, Teen Leadership, and Tripping were lumped together for all of the staff-only training/in-sessions

6.18.2007

Pre-camp Day 4

Baby G was made UL*, which means more money for him, but also more work and responsibility. I was upset most of the day because I'm afraid he's going to burn out, but I've reminded mysself that he, like anyone else, can only do what they think they need to. If he thinks he needs to do this, then that's that, and this is not about me.

We've been busy all day with little time to do much of anything outside of learning and eating. BG and I talked, and we're okay now. We talked about us a little, which was weird, and eventually I told him to get out before I touch him, but we're back to okay.

I called Keith and we'll be going home on Day 8 to take care of shopping, and hopefully my dentistry/optometry. I have a cavity that is starting to hurt. :(

* The Misty (1st-3rd grade girls) Unit Leader quit mid-training, and he was the only person who applied for the position

6.17.2007

Pre-camp Day 3

More craziness with camp songs and meetings etc. The power went out on the island on Day 2 during a big group meeting for a few hours, and I saw my first raccoon. Boo. I slept a bit cold, so tonight I used my sleeping bag as a comforter/top layer. I would really like to get a quilt from in-town*, just something from the island. B[acon] is totally going to get on my nerves, she's loud, off-topic, starts tangents, and is pretty much just plain ignorant. :( But I'll try my hardest to deal with her. It can't be any harder than sitting in a row with someone at Nintendo that I can't stand. We're doing theme dinner: Hillbilly Royalty, wtf?**

I survived Aloha night with the BBH unit that I liked even less than some of this group, so there's no reason why I can't get through this theme dinner all the same.

* "In-town" is considered either Vashon or Burton, the two towns on the island, i.e. civilization
** During staff training, you go through the motions of a normal session. My unit planned this event during staff training, and I most certainly had nothing to do with the choosing of the theme

6.16.2007

From now till Sept. 2 are my summer spent at Camp Sealth; these have all been trascribed verbatim from the various notebooks I wrote the entries in throughout the summer, plus a few at the end that I never got around to writing (mainly session 8 and workcrew as I remember it). I've added notes at the bottom of each entry signifying extra info, altering information that I wrote down incorrectly at the time, or forgot to add to the entry for the day in question.

Pre-camp Day 2

Got here alright, Baby Giant (Conrad) and Kuma (Heath) and I ate brekkist, checked in and got started right away. BG's in Milky Way* and Kuma is in Magic Hill. I am in Horizon this year, and Gex** is here as well (surprise -_-). My group is all in old Magic Hill/WoHeLo area, so I'm on Hilltop by myself in Redwood/Maple. Everyone's sleeping in the cabin with the kids this year, so all of my stuff is in Maple, but all of the kids will be in Redwood with me during sessions.

* Milky Way is 1st-3rd grade boys, Magic Hill is 4th-6th grade boys
** I first met him as a Horizon camper, and worked with him as a KA Rover
